For Military Families
With Fort Benning hosting thousands of PCS moves a year, schools around Columbus are experienced with military transitions. A few things every military family should know:
- •Interstate Compact: Georgia is part of the Military Interstate Compact, which protects continuity of education for military children (records, course placement, graduation requirements).
- •School Liaison Officer at Fort Benning: A great first call. They help with enrollment paperwork, IEPs, and finding the right school fit. Reach them at (706) 545-7567.
- •On-post schools: Fort Benning has DoDEA elementary and middle schools (Loyd, Dexter, Faith Middle, McBride). High-schoolers attend off-post.
- •Magnet timing: Magnet applications in Muscogee usually open in November/December for the following fall. If you PCS late, ask about mid-year transfers.
